It is important that you as a customer ask as many questions as possible to find out if you are working with the correct company. Does the Company use pre-built templates or is each website custom built?
This is a compulsory question that you should always ask a web developer or agency. Likely the web developer won’t be prepared for this question as most people will just assume it is custom coded for their business. There are of course advantages and disadvantages of using both, but make sure you know what they are using. It could save you a lot of money and hassle in the long run.

What happens if I don’t like the initial design?
You may not be ecstatic with the initial visual concept which the designer has created for you. This is not an issue for us as designers, this happens occasionally. You should ask how many revisions are included in your package. You must be happy with the look and feel of your website, although we are here to advise you on what is best.
Can you provide examples of websites that your company designed?
Having a look at previous work can be the biggest factor in deciding if a company is the right choice for you. Are there parts of websites that you like on others that they have made? A little homework on your part can help us and make it considerably easier to understand your needs and project requirements.
Can website content be easily modified by myself/any other parties?
Most websites should incorporate a CMS (Content Management System) i.e. WordPress, Drupal or Joomla. This will allow you to make alterations on pages for yourself, so you can quickly upload a new service you offer or a new blog about something you want people to know about.
How much do you charge?
Probably the most obvious question of them all. It is important to get a breakdown of the quote you receive. As a customer trying to run a business, revenue may be limited and you don’t want to be spending money on services/products that you may not require.
How do you measure results after the site goes live?
There are multiple tools that a company can use to evaluate the success of your website. It is important to use some form of analytics on the website. You should be seeing positive results and the company should be driving your website to get these.
Ask for a monthly/quarterly report of how your website is performing, this can help you understand the progress of your site. Important factors in this report should be factors like organic traffic, keyword progress and backlinks to name a few.
